Course: Main Course
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 12 links or roughly 2 lbs of your favorite brats
  • Toppings of choice: cooked peppers and onions, sauerkraut, mustard, relish, ketchup
  • Optional: your choice of buns- pretzel buns, hot dog buns, hoagie rolls
  • 16 oz bag coleslaw
  • ¾ cup mayonnaise
  • 1-2 tsp spicy brown mustard
  • 4 tsp apple cider vinegar or white vinegar
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • Other optional sides: baked beans, potato salad, salad, broccoli salad

Method

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the mayo, mustard, vinegar, and salt and pepper to taste. Pour in the bag of coleslaw and stir to coat/combine. Place in the refrigerator to chill while you make the brats.
  2. If using peppers and onions, cook in a skillet with oil or place on the grill before the brats, seasoning them with salt and pepper. Grill the brats on a grill or grill pan at about 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes, turning regularly so they brown evenly.
Alternatively, you can simmer them in a pan by pouring in one bottle of beer and nestling the brats together in the beer. Simmer for about 10-15 minutes, then finish them on a hot grill or grill pan for about 5 minutes, turning regularly.
  3. You can serve these on a plate topped with peppers, onions, and sauerkraut or you can place them in a lightly toasted bun and top with your favorite toppings. Plate them with the coleslaw and other sides.
