Total Time 30 minutes
Servings: 4
Course: Main Course
Cuisine: American, Asian

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or chicken
  • 1 tsp granulated garlic
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes, optional
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp sesame oil (optional)
  • sriracha to taste
  • 2 cups instant rice
  • Toppings of choice: sliced radishes, grated carrot, diced cucumber, seaweed, sesame seeds

Method

  1. Start by making the rice according to package instructions. Next, brown the ground beef (or chicken) with the sliced bell pepper. Season with granulated garlic, ginger, salt and pepper to taste, and if using, red pepper flakes.
  2. While the meat cooks, make the sauce by whisking together the soy sauce, vinegar, honey, sesame oil, and sriracha. When the meat is cooked through and broken apart, and the pepper is softened, stir in the sauce. Simmer lightly for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Assemble bowls with rice as base for the meat and sauce, and whatever toppings you like.
  4. This is very customizable. For example, some people in my family like very spicy food, others don't like spicy at all. So I don't use the red pepper flakes or srircha while cooking, but put both out with the toppings so that each person can add as much as they like!
